Gold Winner:
Matel Kane, Business Superintendent, Tasiast
Matel joined Kinross in 2015, starting in the Communications department, and later transferring to the Business Management department in 2016.
She has excelled in both roles, and is a disciplined, meticulous and well-rounded employee. Matel spends her days providing valuable business support to various departments across Tasiast – whether she is looking at the finance side of a request, or perfecting English translations.
Matel made key contributions developing Tasiast’s four-point plan (4PP), managing the site’s capital process, coordinating monthly GM cost review meetings, and working with HR initiatives to improve site culture.
This year, Matel was tasked with developing a “budget book” for Tasiast to display the 2018 budget and spend forecast. With minimal support and countless hours of disciplined focus, Matel delivered a comprehensive and accurate document that has been a valuable resource for the site.
“Tasiast is lucky to have someone as motivated and determined as Matel on their team,” said Daniel Marini, Vice-President & General Manager, Tasiast. “She is a shining example of a high-performing employee who is ambitious and also dedicated to helping her colleagues improve along the way. She is very deserving of this award.”
Matel is recognized as someone who is committed to achieving goals she sets for herself, and supporting others as they strive for their own achievements. An open-minded employee, with financial and technical skills, Matel’s future is bright at Kinross, and she is a great example of the emerging young and educated community in Mauritania.
