How did Chirano reduce malaria rates by 91% among employees?

By the end of 2013, our Chirano mine reduced the malaria incidence rate by 91% among our workforce in Ghana, and by 45% in local communities around the mine. By implementing strategies to keep areas mosquito free, improving health care and education, and undertaking scientific and social research, Chirano’s Malaria Control Program benefited both employees and the local community. On World Malaria Day on April 25, the World Gold Council released a video that reports on the progress made in the fight against malaria in Ghana, which included a short description of Kinross’ successful Chirano Malaria Control Program.
