In October 2013, the Buckhorn mine celebrated two years without a Lost Time Injury (LTI), which is nearly 635,000 man hours. According to the United States Mine Safety and Health Administration (MHSA), the national mining average is 42 days for underground mines of a similar size.
“This is a significant accomplishment for Kettle River-Buckhorn,” says Mark Ioli (General Manager, Kettle River-Buckhorn). “At Kinross, health and safety are our number one priority, and this achievement confirms that our people are committed to this too. This safety milestone wouldn’t be possible without the commitment and perseverance of everyone on site.”
The Kettle River mill has also exceeded seven years without an LTI.
