During the last week of May, Kinross attended two events hosted by our partners in the Wabauskang and Lac Seul First Nations.
The first event was a celebration of the grand opening of the Lac Seul First Nation regional office in Red Lake which will support good communication and effective local relationships between the Lac Seul community members and Red Lake regional industry.
The second event was the Wabauskang First Nation fifth annual ‘Open House’ at the Community Hall in Wabauskang, south of Ear Falls, Ontario.
The purpose of the open house was to connect community members with representatives from companies working in the region and to build on existing relationships to learn more about the resource development activities and career opportunities available through the companies.
Members of all ages from the community came out to attend the event and had the opportunity to meet with Kinross Great Bear representatives Jeremy Brans, General Manager Kinross Ontario and Jenni Piette, Community Relations Manager.
Attendees visited the Kinross booth to learn more about our project plans for Great Bear, our company culture and ESG strategy. Booth visitors had a challenge sheet to fill out for each of the company booths – searching for answers to questions about each project or industry area.
At the end of the night, those who had completed all answers won fun prizes including a drone sponsored by Kinross. Throughout the evening, participants enjoyed a buffet dinner complimentary of Kinross and we closed with a spiritual circle gathering to give thanks by the lake.
“It was Kinross’ first time at the Open House, but it won’t be the last. What a great initiative on behalf of the Wabauskang Resource Office group, who worked hard to organize this amazing opportunity to connect with and understand the needs of the community members,” said Jenni. “We are so fortunate to have such collaborative partners in the Wabauskang First Nation!”
