Kinross Brasil donates R$2,500,000 to fight COVID-19 in Paracatu

Kinross Brasil recently committed $2,500,000 reais (approximately US$470,000) to provide supplies and resources to the Paracatu community to help combat the spread of COVID-19.

The support includes providing over 6,000 quick test kits for members of the community and working alongside the Minas Gerais State Industry Federation (FIEMG) to source and purchase respirators for local hospitals.

The team continues to work alongside the Municipal Health Secretariat, Mutual Aid Plan (PAM), and several other companies in the region to provide masks, gloves, sanitation supplies and various health and safety equipment to protect the community.

“In Paracatu, we are committed to joining efforts with health authorities to mitigate the risks of contamination and proliferation of the new coronavirus,” said Gilberto Azevedo, President and General Manager, Paracatu. “We are following the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and, in line with the recommendations, we carry out prevention and guidance measures.”

In addition, Paracatu has extended influenza vaccinations to family members of employees – while this does not prevent COVID-19, vaccinations help prevent cases of the flu that will help reduce overcrowding at hospitals.
