Kinross Brasil recently committed to donate 3,000 food baskets to the Paracatu Food Bank in an effort to support community members impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The baskets contain cooking necessities including rice, bread, beans, salt and sugar as well as general hygiene and sanitary products.
The baskets were funded using employee and contractor donations that totaled US$13,000 (R$70 000). The Company then tripled that donation, bringing the grand total to US$39,000 (R$210,000). These funds will allow an initial 1,000 baskets to be delivered over the next three months to the food bank.
“At Kinross Brasil, one of our main focus areas in the communities is combating hunger and supporting those struggling with food insecurity,” said Ana Cunha, Government Relations, Social Responsibility, Communications and Community Relations Director, Paracatu. “This donation is an example of how we can come together to make a difference. A big thank you to our employees who made this milestone possible and continue to put their community at the forefront.”
Since the start of the pandemic, Kinross Brasil has contributed more than US$ 700,000 (R$3.5 million) in goods and services to the Paracatu community, most recently through their agreement to refurbish the Saint Lucia Hospital into an active COVID-19 care centre for the community.
