Kinross Brazil was recently recognized with the Excellence Award from the Brazilian journal Ores & Minerals for its report on cascade flotation cells to increase gold recovery.
The cascade process, which is already used in many mines in Chile, utilizes the natural downward gradient between the plant and tailings. At Paracatu, a pilot project of three flotation cells was built that produced positive results and showed that the process could potentially increase gold recovery at the site. Further large-scale testing is needed to identify the circuit’s efficiency and viability, and to determine installation costs.
Congratulations to Rodrigo B. Gomides (Manager, Senior Process and Industrial Maintenance), Getúlio G. Junior (Manager, Technology Development) and Alair A. Jesus (Process Specialist) for championing the project and bringing it from the lab to the mine. To learn more about the project, read the profile on Ores & Minerals (available in Portuguese only).
