In late April, Kinross welcomed its global environmental employees to Paracatu for the annual ‘Environmental Summit,’ in person for the first time since the pandemic began!
The purpose of the conference was to bring together our global employees to discuss a variety of environmental and climate related topics including environmental stewardship, water management, reclamation and closure.
The conference began with a detailed tour of the Paracatu mine and a cultural tour of the city during which participants learned about the deep-rooted culture in the city of Paracatu, highlighting the positive impacts our environmental initiatives can have on host communities.
Over the course of three days, the participants worked together to discuss key environmental challenges and used their collective global knowledge and experience to come up with solutions and ways to create efficiencies. The event also provided an opportunity for members to network, share best practices and innovations.
“This year’s environmental summit was an excellent opportunity to showcase the strong, diverse talent of the employees in Kinross’ environmental sector,” said Tim Caldwell, Director, Environmental Affairs. “There was excellent information and sharing of expertise, and we identified solutions that can be implemented across our global operations, many of which create a lasting difference in the communities where we operate. We are excited for the networks that were built at this summit and look forward to continuing to generate change through these types of conferences in coming years!”
