Kinross opens new office in Magadan

Kinross officially opened a new multistory office building in Magadan in April with a festive ribbon cutting ceremony that also coincides with the Company’s 20th anniversary operating in Russia.

Among the guests attending the opening ceremony were Magadan Mayor Sergey Abramov, our Regional Vice President Claude Schimper and Executive Vice President Warwick Morley-Jepson. Music was provided by a local Kupol band and the event was covered in local media including the Magadan branch of Russian state television.

“Kinross Gold has already been working in Russia for twenty years,” said Claude Schimper, Regional Vice President. “The opening of this new regional office demonstrates our company’s commitment to working in Russia and the Magadan region.”

Kinross enjoys a warm relationship with Magadan, having recently signed its fifth annual cooperation agreement with the port town, which is the closest urban centre to Kupol and Dvoinoye, and is home to 78% of Kinross’ Russian employees. We sponsor many local initiatives there, particularly in education and sport.

“Kinross is a long-standing and reliable partner of Magadan,” said Mayor Sergey Abramov in his welcoming speech. “We are pleased that the company is creating comfortable jobs for city residents and also that it is involved in social projects, sponsoring the construction of children’s playgrounds and helping run school competitions.”

The new office is a multifunctional complex containing offices, conference rooms, lounges, living quarters, a cafeteria and gym. The building employs state of the art energy- and heat-saving technologies and has an open, airy design featuring decorative elements and carvings of the Chukotka, the aboriginal people of the Magadan region.
