At the start of the year, Kinross Tasiast partnered with Project C.U.R.E. and the Mauritanian Ministry of Health to provide two donations totaling ~US$500,000 worth of essential medical supplies and equipment to communities in the country.
The first donation took place in January and provided US$223,000 in medical supplies to five healthcare centres in the Trarza region, and the second donation took place in February, providing US$268,157 in medical supplies and equipment to five healthcare centres in the Gorgol region.
The donations were delivered in shipping containers containing hospital furniture, walking aids, diagnostic tools and various other PPE to keep medical staff and patients safe. Along with the donations, technicians from the ministry provided training courses for medical staff from the regions to ensure accurate, effective use of the supplies and equipment.
The donations were presented to the healthcare centres by representatives from Kinross, the Mauritanian Ministry of Health, and community leaders who thanked Kinross for their contributions toward improving the health and medical services.
Since the 2012 inception of our long-standing partnership with Project C.U.R.E., Kinross has donated 15, 40-foot containers of medical supplies and equipment worth approximately US$6 million to improve the healthcare systems in Mauritania.
