Kinross Gold is excited to release our 2023 Climate Report, providing a comprehensive summary of our global efforts to reduce emissions and address the impact of climate change in 2023.
Highlights of our work on climate action in 2023 include the following:
- Completed the 34MW Tasiast solar plant, which is expected to provide an 18% reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to power generation over the mine life.
- Implemented 15 energy efficiency projects across our global operations, with combined GHG reductions of more than 29 kilotonnes CO2e
- Increased the percentage of renewable energy slightly to 23% of total energy consumed, with 66% of total electricity consumed from renewable sources, and,
- We remain on track to achieve our goal of a 30% reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions intensity over the 2021 baseline by 2030

Kinross’ 2023 Climate Report is developed to align with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and introduces our work to align with the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) newly issued sustainability disclosure standard, IFRS S2 (climate). This report is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the CDP – Climate submission for 2023.
