Kinross has signed its fifth annual cooperation agreement with the town of Magadan, home of our regional Russian office and to over 70% of our employees in Russia.
Kinross enjoys a particularly warm relationship with the Magadan community. In this most recent agreement, signed between Regional Vice-President Claude Schimper and Magadan Mayor Sergey Abramov, Kinross committed to support local events including the municipal stage of the Russian National School Olympiad and the XXII City Scientific Conference for Students. Kinross is also offering career orientation classes.
“This is the latest confirmation of Kinross Gold’s commitment to continuing to contribute to further improvement in the city and promoting greater interest from the people of Magadan, particularly young people, in education and sport,” said Claude Schimper.
Magadan is a remote, subarctic port town of 100,000 and the administrative center of the oblast to the south of Chukotka, where Kinross’ Dvoinoye and Kupol mines are located. The economic mainstays of the region are gold mining and fishing.
On April 23, Kinross plans to open a new office in Magadan. Stay tuned for details!
