Kinross Russia recently sponsored the Annual Moscow Geological Competition organized by the Geology Department of Moscow State University and the Moscow City Department for Education and Science.
This year marked Kinross’ 12th consecutive year sponsoring the competition, reinforcing our commitment to inspiring the industry’s next generation.
As a result of COVID-19, the competition was hosted online but still inspired the same friendly competition as previous years! Students participated in a range of tests, essays and laboratory assessments on topics such as geology, mineralogy, paleontology, crystallography, and environmental and engineering geology.
The event was attended by over 1,000 students from grades 1-11 across 49 regions of Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Alena Matlygina, an eighth-grade student from the city of Nizhny Tagil, took home the grand prize, a laptop donated by Kinross, for receiving first place in the competition.
