Kinross Tasiast was excited to sponsor the Nouadhibou International Marathon in its 13th year. The marathon has become a landmark on Mauritania’s sporting calendar, bringing together over 3,900 participants this year to celebrate wellness, cultural diversity and inclusion.
This year, over 40 employees participated in the marathon as part of ‘Team Kinross’ which was led by Hapsatou Bal, Community Relations Manager, Tasiast, and included two members from our corporate headquarters in Toronto – Dominic Channer, Vice-President, Community Relations, and Dinah Asare, Senior Director, Social Performance – who traveled to Mauritania to compete in the marathon.
Participants competed in a 5, 10 or 21km race that saw a Moroccan athlete win first place in the 21km race, and a member of the National Police Force receive first place in the 10km race. A special shout out to Kinross’ Magdalena Valido, Internal Communications Specialist, Las Palmas, who placed third in the 10km race!
Kinross Tasiast has proudly supported the Nouadhibou International Marathon since its inception in 2011. The marathon is an opportunity for our workforce to connect with the community through healthy competition, while also promoting wellness and resilience.
“The Nouadhibou International Marathon is an event Kinross looks forward to each year. It is not only an opportunity to compete in a race, but an opportunity to connect with our colleagues, community and experience to cultural richness that exists in Mauritania’s culture. We are proud to sponsor this event and to continue building on the success and attendance it receives each year,” said Magdalena.
