In September, Kinross provided a $10,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity GTA and employees participated in a ‘Habitat Build Day’ in Oshawa, Ontario.
Habitat for Humanity GTA works with communities to build affordable homes for working and lower income families in order to provide them with a solid foundation for better healthier lives.
The Habitat Build Day was an opportunity for our workforce to come together and make a difference in the lives of hard-working families in the communities where they live regardless of their department or background in construction.
The day began with a safety meeting for 14 volunteers from our Toronto office who were then were broken up into three teams and were responsible for a variety of tasks including placing insulation, drywalling and putting vapour barriers on the front wall of the house.
At the conclusion of the workday, the homes were one step closer to welcoming their new families who will be residents of one of 50 new developments in Habitat for Humanity GTA’s largest build in the Region of Durham!
“Being part of Habitat for Humanity was a privilege. We started the day by hearing from a single parent who was a recipient of a Habitat for Humanity home. As someone who was raised by a single parent, this story brought to life the positive contributions this organization is making in the community by providing safe homes at an affordable price,” said Candace Janes-Polak, Human Resources Specialist, who participated in the Habitat for Humanity Build Day. “In addition to meeting this parent, this day was an opportunity for Kinross employees of all levels to bond with one another while giving back to a great organization. While it was a tiring day, the experience was both wonderful and rewarding.”
