Kinross has just released its Corporate Responsibility Data Supplement that provides an update on key CR achievements from 2016.

We continue to meet and exceed the high standards we have set in health and safety and the environment, and the commitments we have made to our people and the communities we operate in.

Here is an overview of some highlights from 2016:

  • Health and Safety:
    • Remained one of the safest mining companies in the industry
    • Total Reportable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) of 0.35 compared to 0.33 in 2015

  • Environment:
    • Received the U.S. Bureau of Land Management 2016 Hardrock Mineral Community Outreach and Economic Security Award in recognition of the KRB mine closure plan
    • Improved overall water efficiency across operations by 9%

  • Community:
    • Contributed to almost 800 community programs and initiatives, bringing benefits to over 1 million beneficiaries
    • 97.4% of our workforce represented by people from within the country we operate
    • 74% of revenues spent in host countries with 84% of goods and services sourced in-country

  • Our People:
    • Developed the “Kinross Way for Leadership” program, including the launch of “Kinross University” to help employees develop and enhance their skills

“I am so proud to work with a team of people that care as much for each other, our communities, and the environment as Kinross employees do” said Ed Opitz, Vice-President, Safety and Sustainability. “It’s important that external stakeholders see this too, and this report is an important tool for them to learn about our approach and our successes.”
