Since our Kettle River-Buckhorn mine concluded operations in 2017, employees who are executing our closure, reclamation and exploration activities at the site have remained committed to supporting the Ferry County communities.
In line with our corporate values of Putting People First and Outstanding Corporate Citizenship, the Kettle River Operations team has continued making a difference in the community through a variety of donations and charitable acts to support those in need over the winter months.
Some examples of their initiatives include:
- Creating the annual winter clothing drive that has donated 115 winter coats, nearly 200 pairs of socks, over 50 winter hats, and dozens of pairs of boots and gloves to students in the Curlew and Republic school districts since 2019
- Creating an employee-driven food drive to support those dealing with food insecurity over the holidays
- Purchasing and delivering gifts for residents of local nursing homes, spending time to visit with them as Santa and his helpers
- Filling several tags from the ‘Republic Giving Tree’ to provide presents to vulnerable youth and elderly over the holidays
To complement our employees’ charitable acts during the holiday season, Kettle River partners with the Northeast Washington Hunger Coalition, which resulted in the distribution of 150 turkeys to foodbanks over the holidays in 2021. In addition, the site continues to contribute to the Ferry County Public Utility District and Republic Drug Store to offset heating and prescription costs for local residents through the annual ‘Good Neighbor’ program that began in 2009.
“We are proud of our team’s hard work and dedication to improving the lives of the Ferry County community,” said Gina Myers, Vice President, Reclamation and Projects. “At Kinross, our goal remains the same: to make positive, lasting contributions in our communities, regardless of the stage of mining that we are in.”
