See how Kinross Brazil celebrated ‘World Environment Day’!

The United Nations’ ‘World Environment Day’, which is recognized around the world on June 5, represents an opportunity to raise awareness and promote action towards the protection of the environment. To celebrate, Paracatu hosted a month-long campaign to promote environmental best practices. .

The team kicked off the campaign by hosting the fourth annual ‘Rustic Water Race,’ which brought together over 300 employees and community members for a six kilometre run or walk at the Paracatu State Park. By hosting the event at the park, the team raised awareness of local biodiversity preservation, highlighting the park’s fauna and flora .

For the remainder of the month, the Integrar program partnered with students from the environmental department at ‘Unitec,’ a local manufacturing company, to host workshops and activities on recycling best practices and tree planting. The Company also hosted a session on Kinross’ biodiversity efforts and made a donation of seedlings to support planting effortsin the Belo Horizonte and Caçu communities.

“This year, we chose to celebrate World Environment Day over the course of the month to focus our attention on our environment and ways we can protect it, while encouraging others to do the same,” said Alexandre Matos, Senior Environment Manager, Paracatu. “After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, it was great to have our community back together and to be able to work together to raise awareness and make a tangible difference.”
