“Chirano is a special place and has good vibe that you can feel when you step on the site. Chirano employees have a lot to be proud of,” Paul Rollinson, Kinross CEO during a visit to Chirano, April 17.
Paul was in Chirano attending the Regional Quarterly Business Review. He was accompanied by three other members of the Senior Leadership Team – COO Warwick Morley-Jepson, James Crossland, Executive VP Corporate Affairs and the newest member of the SLT, Gina Jardine, SVP Human Resources.
In an early morning talk to Chirano employees, Paul highlighted a number of recent achievements including Chirano’s two millionth ounce of gold poured in March and the replacement of a failed ball mill trunnion last year in record time (96 days), preventing what could have been a serious fire in the gold room. Paul also underscored the site’s success in managing a government-decreed reduction in energy usage with minimal impact to production.
Paul also acknowledged Chirano’s four LOVA award winners over the past four years and the inspiring work of the blood donor clinic that was set up on the occasion of the two millionth ounce mile stone. He also commended General Manager Ken Norris and employees on Chirano’s high safety standards.
Also attending the QBR from the Region and Corporate were Sylvain Guerard, SVP Exploration, Mike Sylvestre, RVP Africa, Dan Snodgress, VP/GM Tasiast, as well as Peter Reiff, Director, Financial Planning and Analysis, Helene Timpano, VP Business Optimization, Paul Ross, Supply Chain Manager, Africa, David Maude, Regional Finance Officer, Africa and Laurent Reydon, Director, Human Resources, Africa.
At a dinner held at Ken’s residence, the SLT and other attendees had an opportunity to meet Chirano Department Heads and Superintendents. The guests also visited the tailings dams, Mamnao and Tano open pits and the processing plant. As a parting gift, each attendee received a locally handmade wooden hardhat, engraved with their last name and “Kinross Chirano”.
