Ahmed Cheibany, Civil Engineer Superintendent, Tasiast
Ahmed has worked at Kinross since 2012, and is currently a Civil Engineer Superintendent at Tasiast.
As the leader of his team, Ahmed is responsible for ensuring the safety of all workers on his projects, including contractors. He has worked to ensure that all contractors working at the site live up to the same safety standards as Tasiast employees, including getting them through the national certifications and training that allow them to operate in the safest way possible.
Earlier this year, Ahmed and his team completed a large project to add the fourth lift at tailings storage facility 3. Under his leadership, the project was completed one month early and $2 million under budget. Ahmed and his team achieved this milestone while always putting safety first.
In April 2016, Ahmed also helped to organize environmental reviews with the site’s team and the Government of Mauritania to secure environment and archeological protection permitting.
“He works really well with every team at the site and can bring people together while always looking for ways to keep every employee, and the environment, safe,” said one of Ahmed’s nominators.
