Silver Winner:
Aida Araya, Permitting Specialist, Copiapó
Aida joined Kinross in 2017 as a Permitting Specialist and is responsible for the planning, development and compliance of various permits related to the health, environment, camps, and infrastructure of Kinross Chile.
Since her arrival, Aida has been committed to using her experience, technical knowledge and relationship with internal teams and local authorities to tackle challenges, and improve the Company and surrounding communities.
In 2018, Aida became aware of sanitization issues at a rural inn near La Coipa due to its lack of access to water and sewage systems. Aida volunteered her spare time, with help from our Community Relations team, to diagnosis the situation, develop a work plan to obtain drinking water and a sewage system, and facilitate the processing of permits in order to obtain the necessary services for the inn.
As a result, there was a bidding process for the construction work from two local companies and both the water and sewage system projects were approved by the Chilean Health Agency. Aida also provided guidance in obtaining a tax benefit that the owner otherwise would not have been aware of.
“Aida embodies the value of Outstanding Corporate Citizenship for her commitment to going above and beyond her day-to-day tasks to assist in the community,” said a colleague. “She puts her skills and experience forward in order to improve the lives of others. Aida is the definition of a responsible miner.”
