Silver Winner:
Alex Nana Djan, Medical Superintendent, Chirano
Alex joined Kinross in 2011 as a medical superintendent at our Chirano mine in Ghana.
Chirano is located in a rural region of West Africa where community members are faced with challenges related to access for basic medical services.
Quickly noticing these challenges, Alex made it his mission to improve access to medical treatment for communities surrounding the mine.
Aside from his occupation as a medical superintendent, Alex co-founded the Sefwi Health Initative (SHI), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting better health, education and improving the welfare of community members surrounding Chirano.
Over the past five years, the program has organized a variety of health outreach programs including breast cancer and vision impairment screenings, blood donation campaigns, and numerous information sessions to increase awareness of potentially fatal health conditions.
“Alex is a well-known face in the community, appreciated and well respected by his neighbours for his hard work,” said James Brodie Apprey-Mills, Continuous Improvement Analyst, Chirano. “In my opinion, in Alex’s time at Kinross he has made irreplaceable improvements in environmental protection, rural infrastructure, and health and education for local community members.”
His tireless work ethic, coupled with his drive to provide equal access to healthcare for the community, makes him an Outstanding Corporate Citizen.
