Watch this video to see how Kinross is helping to reduce malaria rates at Chirano and in the surrounding communities through the Chirano Malaria Control Program.
The Company has invested $7.4 million on the program, which has reduced malaria rates by 84% among employees, their dependents and contractors, and by 46% in nine neighbouring communities.
Ghana has approximately three million new cases of malaria every year, and the region where Chirano is located is in a high-risk area.
The program helps prevent the spread of malaria using three techniques: house spraying, providing bed nets to keep mosquitoes out, and controlling mosquitoes in stagnant water bodies.
