2017 CR Report Case Study & Video: Strengthening Indigenous Culture in Russia

Last week, we launched our 2017 Corporate Responsibility Report, an in-depth review of our CR performance over the last two years.

As part of our report, we highlighted four case studies that exemplify successful CR initiatives we have implemented across our operations.

Our case study ‘Strengthening Indigenous Culture in Russia’ focuses on social development initiatives to help strengthen and preserve Indigenous culture in Russia’s Chukotka region, where our Kupol and Dvoinoye mines are located.

With support of the Kupol Foundation, educational and teaching aids have been published in native Indigenous languages including Chukchi, Eskimo and Even. Other successful initiatives include a reindeer herding festival and the creation of a mini factory to manufacture traditional clothing. At the Kupol mine, the first-ever ‘Northern Games’ was organized by Indigenous employees at site. Kinross is also committed to providing opportunities to Indigenous people at both mines.

These educational and cultural programs help preserve and promote Indigenous culture in Russia’s Chukotka region contributing to good health and well-being.
