Round Mountain hosts ‘career day’ for students in the community

Round Mountain recently hosted their annual ‘career day’ for local high school seniors as part of their partnership with the Jobs for America’s Graduates (J4NG) career readiness program.

The day provided an opportunity for students to learn more about available careers in the mining industry and explore Round Mountain, including a tour of the pit, warehouse and truck shop facilities.

“We look forward to career day at the mine each year; it’s an excellent opportunity to give students an insider’s perspective into mining and spark their interest in the industry,” said Emily Hendrickson, Corporate Responsibility Specialist. “Students leave inspired and excited for what is beyond their high school years.”

Employees from over ten departments at Round Mountain spoke to students about their background and experience to provide advice for gaining employment and inspiring the next generation of miners. Students then had the opportunity to network with employees to explore career opportunities or gain insight into a day in the life at Kinross.

“Career day gave me a new perspective about the mining industry and inspired me to explore where my skills could fit in,” said a J4NG student. “Kinross and J4NG help students discover new opportunities and think outside the box for our futures, we are lucky to have them!”

J4NG is a state-based, national non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young people’s careers to help them reach economic and academic success. Round Mountain has partnered with J4NG since 2017.
