Kinross Russia attended two conferences to share its experience in developing strong partnerships with the Chukotka communities and to discuss ongoing initiatives of the Kupol Foundation that are supporting Indigenous people in our Russian region.
The conferences were attended at both a regional and national level, and served as an opportunity to connect with other companies and Indigenous communities to share best practices and gain a better understanding of areas for improvement, and how we can continue supporting our communities.
Elena Evtyukhova, Head of Indigenous People’s Affairs Department of Chukotka, spoke on the partnership between Kinross and Chukotka community at the conference:
“The partnership between the Association of Indigenous Peoples of Chukotka and Kinross’ Chukotka Mining and Geological Company (CMGC) is a longstanding successful relationship based on mutual understanding and respect. We are always in search of new approaches to improve the quality of life of our population, ecological well-being, and socio-economic development of the region, and our partners are always there to offer their support.”
The Kupol Foundation was established in 2009 and has supported, to date, 190 socially important projects in the region focused on sustainable development of Indigenous communities, education, healthcare and economic opportunities. The Foundation allocates one third of its budget to projects related to Indigenous people in an effort to preserve and strengthen the culture of Chukotka.
