Last week, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) hosted their annual convention in Toronto, Canada after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic
The PDAC convention attracted more than 17,000 participants, hosting governments, companies and organizations connected to the mineral exploration industry.
Kinross representatives attended PDAC to speak at a variety of sessions and meet with various industry and government representatives.
During the convention, Andrea Freeborough, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer and Ana Cunha, Director of Government Relations and Social Responsibility, Paracatu, met with representatives from the Women in Mining (WIM) UK movement and Women from Latin America in Mining. Both Andrea and Ana have been named to the ‘Top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining’ by WIM UK in 2015 and 2020, respectively.
Kinross also had representatives speak during various sessions. Hélène Timpano, Senior Vice-President, Operations, Toronto, was on the panel for the ‘Minerals are cool and sustainable, so is mining’ session and Maria Montalvão, Vice-President, Legal, Paracatu, provided closing remarks at the session ‘Brazil – Canada Exclusive Capital Markets’. Douglas Kim, Director, Mine Geology and Reconciliation, also spoke at the “Insights for the next generation geos” session.
Mike van Akkooi, Senior Vice-President, Government Relations, spoke on the panel ‘The Future of Mining and its Role in a Fair Transition to the New Economy’. Mike and Ana also welcomed a Brazilian government delegation, which included the Secretary of Mines and Energy, to our Toronto corporate headquarters.
Kinross also hosted a PDAC social event with our First Nations Great Bear project partners, who were visiting Toronto from the Wabauskang and Lac Seul First Nations near Red Lake, Ontario.
