Carmen joined Kinross in 2016 working in a temporary role in the ore processing department. Her work ethic and positive attitude were immediately recognized and she was soon hired as a full-time employee. Since then, Carmen has taken on roles in the lab and administrative services departments and is now the dedicated administration assistant for the ore processing department.
In her role, Carmen supports over 120 employees and still makes time to support the social activities at Fort Knox. She most recently helped arrange a Thanksgiving dinner for employees working on the holiday and when food supplies ran short, she reached out to local restaurants to provide extra food to ensure all operators had a Thanksgiving meal.
Carmen’s desire to lend a helping hand is not limited to social activities; she is regularly involved with supporting other departments when they are short-staffed. Most recently, she assisted with organizing paperwork in the mill operations department, which allowed supervisors to spend more time in the field with their crew. She also assisted the lab and refinery departments with the updating of their training modules, and provided administrative assistance with the distribution of the site’s 25th anniversary jackets.
When she is not lending a helping hand, Carmen can be found putting her passion for safety into practice. She does this by updating ‘Supervisor Talking Points’ after each meeting to ensure all employees are up to date.
Carmen believes two-way communication between management and employees is the key to bringing our First Priorities to life and that by working together we can have the safest operations.
