Thirteen members of the Colla community recently completed an administrative training course sponsored by Kinross Chile as part of the La Coipa Phase 7 project.
The 80-hour program trained community members on administrative duties, such as computer courses including email and minute taking, handling and processing documents and interpersonal and client development modules to prepare participants for employment opportunities.
“Prior to this course I had no knowledge of computers or everyday technology,” said Yulian Fritis, a participant in the course. “I currently work as a security guard in the community; however, this course has given me the skills and resources to pursue a new opportunity in the workplace that would not be possible without Kinross.”
As part of the La Coipa Phase 7 project, this initiative involves a voluntary agreement between Kinross Chile and the Colla community, focusing on education, training and local business development.
“The community’s feedback has reinforced the success of this program,” said Guillermo Contreras, Corporate Responsibility Manager, Chile. “For Kinross, it is important to incorporate social development programs for our neighbours while we support and develop the relationship between the Company and the Colla community.”
