Thank you to all of you who took the time to participate in this year’s “Best of Kinross” competition. We enjoyed each and every of the 33 submissions that were sent in from across all of our sites. It was not easy to select winners but in the end we settled on….
An intrepid cross-country ski expedition across the Russian Arctic; an innovative tracking system for shipping containers at Kupol and a surreal encounter between an oversized lizard and the HR department at Paracatu!!!
Although the 2015 competition is over, we encourage you to keep sending in your story ideas and photographs. They are the stuff that Kinross World is made of!
And the winners are:
Timur Akhmetov, Deputy Environmental Manager at Kupol
Timur will give us an account of the 450 km cross-country ski expedition he is currently taking across the tundra from Anadyr, where he lives, to our Kupol mine! Timur is also involved with several projects supported by Kinross’ Kupol Social Fund, which is helping to revive and maintain traditions of the local indigenous Chukchi. We look forward to his account once he gets back home.
Anna Apoka, Specialist in Corporate Culture at Kupol
Anna will describe an innovative pilot project at Kupol, in which RFID (radio frequency identification) tracking tags have been installed on 1000 containers, making them infinitely easier to locate, identify and keep track of. This new technology is a major step forward for a site where virtually everything – from food to equipment – has to be imported in containers.
Élida Cristina Ferreira, Administrative Assistant at Paracatu
Élida describes a fantastical (but true) encounter between an oversized lizard and the Human Resources department at Paracatu!
For the creativity and determination reflected in their many submissions, we are awarding Honorable Mentions to:
Prince Dufe, Plant Safety Officer at Chirano
Stephen Awuah Walker, Auto Mechanic at Chirano
