CEO and members of leadership travel to Mauritania to meet with Government and visit Tasiast

In September, Paul Rollinson, CEO, and Ben Little, Senior Vice-President, External Relations, traveled to Mauritania to meet with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and congratulate him on his recent re-election to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania’s Presidency.

Along with the President of Mauritania, Kinross leadership met with government officials including the Minister of Mines and Industry, the Minister of Economy and Finance, and the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Employment, Sports and Civic Service. The meetings focused on strengthening the partnership between Kinross and Mauritania, and the prospects and opportunities for collaboration to support Mauritania’s sustainable economic growth, while advancing human capital development and enhancing local skills. 

The visit reaffirmed Kinross’ commitment to supporting the sustainable development of the mining sector in Mauritania and working closely with the Government to advance a responsible mining sector that creates value and benefits local communities.

After meeting with government officials, Paul and Ben together with the Mauritanian External Relations team traveled to Tasiast for a mine tour and to meet with site leadership including Brahim M’bareck, President of Tasiast, Baba Salihi, Vice-President, External Relations, Tasiast, Afjal Hashim, Vice-President and General Manager, Tasiast, and Mike Papadakis, Vice-President and Deputy General Manager, Tasiast.
