Find out who won the 2017 CI&I Award

In June, the Business Optimization team hosted the global Continuous Improvement and Innovation (CI&I) conference in Niagara Falls, Canada.

The conference brings together CI&I teams from across our operations for a week-long event focused on collaborative ideas and techniques to maximize operational success. The conference involved workshops, training sessions and seminars to find new ways to innovate and share best practices across our operations.

J. Paul Rollinson, President & CEO, Lauren Roberts, Chief Operating Officer, and Paul Tomory, Chief Technical Officer, attended workshops and activities throughout the week, capping off the conference with a dinner to announce the winner of the 2017 CI&I Award.

After a tough decision, the judges determined there was a tie between our Bald Mountain and Tasiast teams.

In 2017, Bald Mountain recorded $49 million in savings as a result of CI efforts. Some examples of their improvements include enhancing ore blending strategies, dispatch optimization and a haulage redesign.

“We are thrilled to receive this award and to be recognized by the Kinross family for our achievements in 2017,” said Vicente Ramirez, CI Manager, Bald Mountain. “We have put a lot of time into improving our CI efforts and maximizing ways to implement positive change. A huge thank you to our entire Bald Mountain team for their hard work and dedication.”

“I am humbled to receive this on behalf of Tasiast and the fantastic team we have on site,” said Robert Serisier, CI Manager, Tasiast. “I have learned so much over the last few days here with an amazing group of individuals and am excited to get back to Tasiast and begin working on CI initiatives that will benefit our site.”
