Generating Economic Value in Mauritania

The following video highlights the positive socio-economic impact felt in Mauritania through various Kinross investments.

In Mauritania, our Tasiast operations are among the country’s largest employers, directly employing 1,495 workers and 2,322 contractors – 90% of whom are nationals. Evidence shows that our operations are having a measurable, positive impact on the quality of life of the communities around Tasiast. A 2013 survey conducted near our mine operations by Mauritanian sociologists found that the number of local households living below the poverty line had been cut by more than half since 2011 and the unemployment rate had declined from 47% to 24%.

This video is one of four case study videos produced for our 2013 Corporate Responsibility Report (available in English only).
