Andrews joined Kinross in 2010, and quickly began embracing Kinross’ culture and commitment to supporting local communities. As an active member of the Chirano community, he set out to make a positive impact on those around him by donating to a local charity that supports impoverished widows and orphans and encouraging his colleagues to do the same. Each year, he also holds a fundraiser for employees to donate educational items such as books, notepads, pens, pencils, math and science kits, and everyday essentials such as bedsheets, toiletries and non-perishable foods to the local orphanage.
On a larger scale, Andrews raised funds to acquire a plot of land in the surrounding community for the construction of a larger, permanent building to house 50 children from the orphanage, and is mobilizing resources to support the development and completion of the project.
Promoting health and safety in the community is also something Andrews feels passionate about. During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, he sourced personal protective equipment (PPE) for the orphanage, while also promoting educational seminars on best practices and enrolling the children in National Health Insurance system to protect them in the event of illness.
“Andrews is an important member of Kinross’ team and plays a significant role in our community and building a relationship with them,” said Kyekyeku Oppong, Environment and Community Relations Manager. “He is both recognized, and appreciated across Chirano and has strengthened Kinross’ bond with the community by bringing the company’s values to life. Chirano is a better place with Andrews on our team.”
