Jorge is an experienced miner who joined La Coipa in 1991 and remained part of the team when it was acquired by Kinross in 2003. During the site’s shutdown in 2013, Jorge was transferred to Maricunga and was later brought back to La Coipa when the site reopened in 2021.
Jorge’s extensive work experience in Chile has led him to become a community leader, where he acts as a voice for our stakeholders, their needs and how we can support them as a Company.
Leading by example, Jorge organized a team of 18 volunteers from the operations and maintenance departments who work together to drive community initiatives, donations and fundraisers that support our stakeholders in the Paipote and Cartavio communities. One of the team’s largest accomplishments was the donation of a dining room to the Damas Blancas de la Paz Seniors home in the community. This was an opportunity to provide more than just food and supplies, but a common space to socialize and develop friendships for members of the seniors home.
In addition to Jorge’s work in the community, he is committed to the health and well-being of employees at La Coipa. In 2023, he led a Movember campaign to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of early detection and warning signs of prostate and testicular cancer. This campaign was promoted both in the workplace and the community, raising a total of US$6,700 for community initiatives.
“Jorge is not only a seasoned employee, he is a social spirit who inspires his peers to give back to their community and make a lasting impact on our stakeholders. We are proud to have someone like Jorge on the La Coipa team whose actions will leave a legacy with the Company and the community,” said Cristhian Staeding, Human Resources Manager, Chile.
