As part of Kinross’ commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and human rights, Kinross Alaska recently announced a US$350,000 investment into the University of Alaska Fairbanks to establish the ‘Kinross Alaska Future Leaders Scholarship’!
The scholarship will focus on underrepresented people such as women and Indigenous Peoples in the resource development industry in an effort to advance their inclusion . Eligible candidates can apply for financial support from the endowment to pursue a technical program, associates degree or bachelors degree.
Kinross Alaska announced the scholarship at the University’s ‘Blue and Gold Celebration’ that honors student scholarships and research and service awards. This year’s event was presented by Kinross Alaska and attended by over 200 local leaders and university supporters. In total, attendees raised a record breaking US$435,000 in support of student scholarships.
“For 26 years, Kinross Alaska has been investing in Alaskans and building partnerships in the communities we serve. We are proud of our partnership with UAF,” said Terence Watungwa, Vice-President and General Manager, Kinross Alaska. “Through the creation of the Kinross Alaska Future Leaders Scholarship we hope to foster an inclusive culture in the mining industry where those people who are historically underrepresented feel included and welcomed to contribute their perspectives, their values and their cultures.”
