In November, Kinross attended ‘Mauritanides,’ the sixth annual Mauritanian mining, oil and gas conference held in Nouakchott that brings together over 2,000 industry professionals for a chance to network and discuss investment opportunities in the country.

This year’s conference was attended by several senior leaders from Kinross including Paul Rollinson, President & CEO, Claude Schimper, EVP and Chief Operating Officer, Andrea Freeborough, EVP and Chief Financial Officer, Mike van Akkooi, SVP, External Affairs and Brahim M’Bareck, President of Tasiast.

During the conference, Paul participated on the panel ‘Gas, Green Hydrogen & Mining: The Challenges of Industrialization in Africa and Mauritania’ and Mikegave a presentation titled ‘Sustainability the Kinross Experience. The delegation then visited the Kinross booth and welcomed the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, to discuss Kinross’ ongoing operations, sustainability initiatives and commitment to ESG.

“The Mauritanides conference is an excellent opportunity to meet and connect with government officials and world-wide industry professionals,” said Brahim. “The conference also provides a space for Kinross to showcase our operations and the positive impacts we are making in the country as they relate to sustainability, jobs and economic opportunities, and responsible mining.”
