Kinross Gold’s Board of Directors visit Tasiast mine in Mauritania

On May 30th, a few days after Paul Rollinson, President and CEO, participated in the executive panel on renewable energy transition in Mauritania, Kinross’ Board of Directors visited our Tasiast mine, along with senior executives from the Company.

The visit was an opportunity to demonstrate the Company’s deep commitment to Mauritania and to gain a first-hand look at the day-to-day operations at the Tasiast mine, as well as experience Mauritanian culture.

During the visit, the delegation met with Gavin Ferguson, Vice-President and General Manager, Tasiast, who provided a site update and joined the delegation on their tour of the pit, processing plant, 24K project and the mine’s new female employee lounge. The delegation also met Tasiast employees, including the site’s first female haul truck driver, with the visit concluding with a traditional meal followed by a traditional Mauritanian musical performance.

After their visit to Tasiast, the Board and senior executives attended a formal dinner hosted by the Government of Mauritania including the Minister of Finance, Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation and the Minister of Economic Affairs and Promotion of the Productive Sector, Minister of Public Service and Labour and Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development. The dinner was an excellent opportunity to further build our existing strong relationship with the Government.
