We are proud to announce that Kinross placed among the top companies in The Globe and Mail’s ‘Board Games’ for its governance practices and was also recognized in the publication’s annual ‘Greater Toronto’s Top Employers’ competition!
Kinross was named the top mining company in The Globe and Mail’s ‘Board Games’, scoring 90 points out of 100 and placing 27th overall, moving up three places from our 2019 ranking. The ranking examines over 200 boards of directors in the S&P/TSX Composite Index to assess the quality of their governance practices by evaluating board independence, diversity, compensation and disclosures, among other criteria.
In 2019, Kinross elected its first female Independent Chair and has achieved its goal of 33% female representation on our board. Since 2015, we have elected six new directors through our Board Refresh Program which has lowered average director tenure, and enabled effective succession for key roles and successful knowledge transfer.
“Our peer-leading Board Games results shows the strength and rigour of Kinross’ governance,” said Geoff Gold, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development, External Relations & Chief Legal Officer. “Our high ranking is a testament to the hard work of our management and Board, and we look forward to continuing to enhance our governance practices.”
Kinross was also named one of ‘Greater Toronto’s Top Employers’ for the third consecutive year by The Globe and Mail. We were recognized for the support we provided to employees and communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. ‘Greater Toronto’s Top Employers’ is an annual competition that celebrates companies who lead their industry with progressive human resource policies and initiatives that attract and retain top talent.
“It is great to see our culture and workplace recognized and celebrated for the third year in a row through this competition,” said Tara Wiseman, Vice-President, Global Human Resources. “This past year was a unique challenge and we’d like to acknowledge our teams who continue to find ways to operate with our values in mind.”
