Kinross Russia organized its sixth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month to draw attention to preventative measures that can reduce the risk of fatality associated with breast cancer.
Magadan held an event for Kinross employees, their families and representatives from the Department of Education in the region.
The event included a baking class for mothers and daughters, where they made muffins and cookies with pink and white designs to symbolize the fight against breast cancer.
Claude Schimper, Regional Vice-President, Russia, attended the event and spoke to attendees on the importance of regular examinations and testing to catch any potential cancers early.
“At Kinross, we strongly believe that our employees’ health comes first,” said Claude. “It is important to raise awareness on diseases like breast cancer that can be treated and cured if caught early. This annual event is about reminding our employees about the resources available that can help prevent the spread of cancer.”
World Health Organization (WHO), estimates that breast cancer is one of the most common oncological diseases diagnosed in women. Kinross has partnered with the Magadan Regional Oncology Hospital to provide breast and thyroid ultrasounds to employees who wished to take part in the examinations.
