Silver winner: Brenna Schaake, External Affairs Supervisor, Kinross Alaska

Brenna Schaake, External Affairs Supervisor, Kinross Alaska

Brenna joined Kinross in 2021 and quickly became known as the face of Kinross in the community due to her ability to build strong relationships with our stakeholders and local government officials, while demonstrating Kinross’ corporate values in all facets of her day-to-day tasks.

As the External Affairs Supervisor for Kinross Alaska, Brenna is passionate about being an ambassador in the community for Kinross, which led her to playing a vital role in advancing the Manh Choh project. Brenna continues to be instrumental in building community and government support for the project due to her ability to effectively answer questions, listen to concerns, and incorporate stakeholder feedback into our project plans.

Manh Choh has recently advanced from the project phase to operational largely due to Brenna’s multi-year efforts to gain trust and support from community members by having open, transparent and informative conversations. As a result, the Manh Choh project broke ground in August 2023.

Aside from Brenna’s involvement in the Manh Choh project, she is also an active member in the Fort Knox community where she leads several volunteer initiatives including the Golden Days Celebration, Tanana Valley State Fair, Youth Safety Day and Family Day. She was also instrumental in planning Alaska Native Heritage Month for employees in Alaska where she organized various education campaigns, celebrations and spotlights in the Fort Knox employee newsletter.

“Brenna has a real spark and joy for the community. She’s from the area and it’s very clear that she is passionate about the work we do for our stakeholders which makes her an ambassador for the community,” said Anna Atchison, External Affairs Director, USA. “Brenna is great at inspiring others at the Company to participate and engage in community events, which benefits our relationships with stakeholders by showing our involvement and excitement in the community. Brenna plays a big role in creating that relationship and we are lucky to have her in this role!”
