Silver Winner: Eric Merritt, Projects Supervisor, Round Mountain

Eric Merritt, Projects Supervisor, Round Mountain

Eric is a long time veteran of Round Mountain with over 20 years of experience at the operation. Over his time at Round Mountain, Eric has worked in a variety of roles to challenge himself and adapt to the needs of the mine. Since joining Kinross, Eric has worked in Mill Operations, Health and Safety and most recently in the Projects group for the past seven years.

In 2020, Eric was assigned to work on the reinstallation of the Primary Crusher. He joined the project once design work was complete and noticed some issues pertaining to the placement of parts and how they may not be in optimal spots to maximize feed to the mill. Eric went out into the field to take measurements and provide additional details to the team to identify the problem and find a viable solution. After working with his team, Eric was able to develop a solution that modified the design to work as efficiently as possible for the mill and maintenance crews.

When Eric works on a project, he always has the Company’s best interest in mind and will find ways to improve the outcome of a project from both an operational and financial perspective. When parts are missing, he will search around the mine for spares before ordering new ones to be more efficient and cost-effective. He is committed to his work and will often times sit in on calls on his days off to ensure the all employees and contractors have the materials and information needed.

Aside from his contributions from an operational and financial perspective, one of Eric’s strengths is his commitment to employee safety. He will always take full ownership of his projects to ensure employees complete the tasks safely, while still being on time and on budget.

“I can’t think of someone who is a better representative of High Performance Culture than Eric,” said Pam Franks, Projects General Foreman, Round Mountain. “His knowledge and experience have brought significant benefits to Round Mountain over his time at the Company. His innovative ideas and thinking outside-the-box have saved the Company both time and money on several projects.”
