In October, Kinross Fort Knox celebrated a significant milestone when it placed first ore at the Barnes Creek Heap Leach facility. This project is a result of three years of hard work across functions and was delivered on time and under budget.
“The Barnes Creek Heap Leach project goes back to the early 2000s with the first drill holes on Gilmore land. The project has been built to accommodate that ore and will be a significant part of our operation for years to come,” said Jeremy Brans, Vice-President and General Manager, Fort Knox. “Congratulations to the team on yet another successful group effort that will generate significant returns for us.”

The Barnes Creek Heap Leach covers over 50 acres of land and is expected to play a significant role in the future of Fort Knox as part of the Gilmore LOM extension Project. The project is expected to extend life of mine to 2030, adding ~1.5 million gold equivalent ounces to life of mine production and providing another decade of economic opportunities in Interior Alaska.
