At Round Mountain, the Continuous Improvement (CI) team successfully implemented a process to collect and deliver on employee improvement ideas through a board system on site. The CI board system was initially developed by Caterpillar and has been shared with every Kinross mine site through the Caterpillar Alliance program, a relationship established by the Global Supply Chain team. Participating departments trained employees on how to submit ideas, with emphasis on realistic improvements that departments can implement themselves. Department-level awards were established to incentivize employees to participate and reward value.
With the support of department leadership, the teams with boards include Ore Processing, Mine, and Maintenance. In 2013, Round Mountain received over 300 CI board submissions from employees.
