See how Kinross’ global operations celebrated International Women’s Day!

On March 8th, Kinross celebrated International Women’s Day – a global celebration held annually to recognize the contributions of women to our workplaces and communities, and reiterate our commitment to advancing gender equality. At Kinross, our diverse workforce makes significant contributions to our shared success and we are pleased to recognize and celebrate these accomplishments.

This year’s global theme #InspireInclusion resonates deeply with our core value of Putting People First and our culture of embracing diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I). By respecting and valuing each of our employees for their unique contributions, we create an environment where everyone can thrive.

Across our global operations, our teams put together several events and initiatives to honour female employees, including with our inaugural International Women’s Day calendar featuring the exceptional Women of Kinross and their accomplishments.

Check out more on how each of our sites celebrated International Women’s Day below:

In Tok, a luncheon was hosted with employees, business partners and community members where three standout women from the community were recognized for being inspiring role models. Attendees then visited Manh Choh to bring treats to employees who could not attend the celebration.

At Fort Knox, the team unveiled a purple haul truck and had their daily blast dyed purple to celebrate International Women’s Day. Employees then attended a brunch to discuss the importance of women in the workforce and in the mining industry. Volunteers then gathered donations of personal care products that were delivered to a local women’s shelter. Finally, Kinross Fort Knox partnered with two Fairbanks based mining companies for an event to showcase women across the industry, which brought together over 300 attendees to celebrate women miners and community members.

Kettle River

At our Kettle River Operation in Washington State, the team partnered with the local Business and Professional Women’s Chapter at a local female-owned restaurant to bring together employees and community members for a lunch. They sharedstories of the remarkable achievements of strong women in the community and inspired one another. This was an excellent opportunity to bond our employees and community while supporting a local, and female-owned business.

Great Bear

At Great Bear, employees came together to celebrate female employees at site-wide dinner at a local restaurant where they received sweaters and our Women of Kinross calendars.

Toronto

In Toronto, employees had the opportunity to attend a fun, dynamic workshop  to discuss what inspiring inclusion looks like both at Kinross and beyond. Employees then attended a celebratory International Women’s Day lunch in our staff lounge.

A special performance then came from Pablo Herrera, a renowned Chilean singer-songwriter.

The day concluded with aceremony to honour female employees recognized for two awards – ‘Our Corporate Values’ and ‘Spirit of Companionship’ awards in an effort to unite our women and highlight their contributions in the industry.

At Tasiast, a two-day celebration kicked off by inviting all female employees and their families to Tasiast for a tour of the site that was led by Brahim M’Bareck, President of Tasiast, and Afjal Hashim, Vice-President and General Manager, Tasiast. Brahim and Afjal showed the families around the site including the ladies lounge, GM’s office, lookout point and even an up-close view of a haul truck.

Employees then participated in a women’s empowerment conference that included a panel session on the importance of DE&I both at work and in Mauritania. Two female employees were then presented with awards for their collaboration to enhance women’s living conditions at Tasiast, and a new ‘Women’s Committee’ was launched. Finally, the incoming cohort of Tasiast women to join the Women of Kinross program were announced, and former members were presented with diplomas for their participation in the program.

In addition to the family members who attended our International Women’s Day celebrations, members of the Benichab community were invited to attend our celebrations to gain valuable insight into Kinross’ DE&I initiatives.

Las Palmas

In Las Palmas, employees attended a breakfast where they had the opportunity to speak with their coworkers on the progress made towards gender equality and ongoing efforts to promote diversity and inclusion both in the workplace and beyond.

During the breakfast, a presentation was held to spotlight the remarkable achievements of women at Kinross and the inspiring women who are bringing DE&I initiatives to life. All attendees received a purple flower at the end of the event to symbolize the strength and resilience women bring to our workplace and society.
