Silver Winner: Daniel Hill, Site Services Coordinator, Great Bear

Daniel Hill, Site Services Coordinator, Great Bear

Dan joined Kinross in 2022 and has been a member of the Great Bearteam since 2018. Dan is the Site Services Coordinator at Great Bear but constantly goes beyond his scope of work to drive employee engagement and support the workforce on site.

As an advocate for employee engagement, Dan makes sure employees are recognized for achieving milestones, identifying safety hazards, supporting one another, or anything that stands out to their peers. He does this by having an anonymous recognition box outside his office where employees can share the ‘wins’ of their colleagues who would then be recognized for their accomplishments. This has helped increase employee morale, while bringing an infectious positive attitude and hand-on involvement to the site.

Dan is known for his problem-solving skills and was instrumental in securing storage for core samples when minimal space was available at site. Dan worked with supervisors on site and local contractors in Red Lake to find temporary storage facilities for samples until a new laydown area was constructed at Great Bear. This helped keep samples safe and reduced the possibility of any damage.

Apart from his day-to-day tasks, Dan is also a member of the Health and Safety Committee. Dan’s contributions to the committee have been valuable in developing the health and safety program at Great Bear, particularly in the crucial early stage as a growing site and workforce.

“Dan truly cares about his peers and is there to support anyone who is in need. Not only is employee engagement and morale top of his mind, he is a trusted individual with a kind ear and will do anything in his personal time or at work to help others who are struggling or in need of support.”
