At Kinross, we recognize June as ‘Pride Month’ – an opportunity to raise awareness around the issues facing the LGBTQ2+ community, and celebrating self-identity, inclusivity and equality for those who identify as part of the community.
This year, our Talent and Engagement and Social Committee teams worked together to create a series of workshops, events and activities to raise awareness for our LGBTQ2+ community members and to demonstrate our commitment to building an inclusive environment rooted in allyship.
Here are some examples of Pride related activities that took place in June:
- Pride decorations for the Toronto office staff lounge and new ‘Progress Pride Flag’ for each employee
- A ‘Pride Month Challenge’ that encouraged teams to work together on a puzzle to learn more about the history of the LGBTQ2+ community and actions they can take to foster a safe and open working community
- A ‘desk drop’ of rainbow coloured cookies from local bakeshop
To conclude the month of June, the Talent and Engagement team, in collaboration with HR Brazil hosted a ‘Pride Fireside Chat’ with guest speaker Suzanne Sherkin, an experienced facilitator, conflict coach and mediator who spoke on allyship and what we can do to cultivate a more inclusive workspace while drawing on her own personal experiences.
The chat was joined by over 150 global employees including Eduardo Magalhaes, Human Resources Director, Paracatu, who provided opening remarks and guest speaker Karol Amorim, Community Relations Specialist, Alaska.
