Corporate Human Resources host ‘Unconscious Bias’ training in Toronto and Brazil

Kinross’ Corporate Human Resource team hosted two ‘Unconscious Bias’ training workshops for senior leadership in Toronto and Brazil in alignment with our People Commitment to Champion Diversity in the workplace.

Over 50 senior leaders from our global operations attended the workshops to build awareness on the benefits of an inclusive and diverse workforce and the role leadership has in creating an inclusive work environment.

Jennifer McRae, Senior Director, HR Strategy & Executive Talent, Toronto, and Michael Bach, Founder and CEO of the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion, hosted the workshops where participants explored the concept of inclusion and diversity, built awareness and brainstormed tips for managing unconscious biases, and discussed the importance of an inclusive and diverse culture at Kinross.

The workshop had participants analyze a practical case study to identify their unconscious biases and create individualized action plans to overcome them. This allowed participants to immerse themselves in a potential real-life situation and identify areas for improvement in their leadership skills.

To kick off 2020,  corporate and Paracatu human resource teams worked together tolaunch a similar workshop with employees that focuses on building a culture of Inclusion and Diversity in the region.

“Accepting that biases are a fact of life, and understanding our own biases, gives us the ability to challenge our belief systems and take steps towards ensuring that our words and actions reflect an inclusive mindset,” said Kathleen Grandy, Vice-President, Legal, Compliance and Corporate Secretary. “Everyone, regardless of their personal background or role at the Company, can make simple changes to foster an atmosphere of inclusiveness, which ultimately results in a richer, more productive and happier workplace. We can all benefit from inclusiveness training.”
