On November 24th, Kinross’ Human Resources team kicked off its new Women in Mining Peer Networking Program – an initiative dedicated to connecting the women of Kinross through shared experiences and mentorship across our global operations. This program represents one aspect of our broader Inclusion and Diversity strategy, which is intended to create an inclusive environment for every member of the Kinross team.
In the spirit of the 2020 Global Inspirational Women in Mining awards announced earlier in the week, this program was an opportunity to connect over 40 women who have been identified by our male and female leaders as potential nominees. The participants will be matched with women from different regions and disciplines for an opportunity to gain holistic insight into the Company’s diverse functions and the mining industry in various parts of the world.
The program included a panel of female leaders from Kinross including Tara Wiseman, Vice-President, Global Human Resources, and Kathleen Grandy, Vice-President, Human Resources, Compliance & Corporate Secretary. Participants took part in an interactive session that focused on building mutually beneficial relationships, which was followed by an opportunity to connect through networking. The session provided participants with helpful tips to manage their professional growth including the importance of maintaining proactive conversations with leaders and mentors to explore how to identify and reach career goals.
Catherine McLeod-Seltzer, Board Chair, also joined the panel to congratulate the nominees and provide background on her experience as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
“I am personally so proud to be leading a Company who advocates for women in mining and drives the development of young female leaders,” said Catherine. “As women we must continue to lean on one another for support and mentorship to continue moving forward in this industry. Together we are all stronger.”
