Souleymane, otherwise known as ‘Solo’, joined Kinross in 2009 as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Electrician. He later advanced to Mobile Maintenance Supervisor in 2017.
Solo’s top priority is the health and safety of his employees. Since he joined the mobile maintenance team, he has been recognized as the ‘go-to’ resource for managing safety concerns and finding solutions quickly and efficiently.
In January 2020 an incident occurred in which a truck operator became trapped in his cab. Solo assessed the situation and quickly came up with the idea to remove the front glass of the truck to allow the operator to remove himself without injury. This solution earned Solo recognition as ‘Employee of the Month’ at Tasiast, for his ability to think on his feet and deliver the best possible results.
Solo also encourages his employees to speak up when there are challenges or potential safety concerns they should work through. He knows employees value the wisdom of experience and is an active mentor, and encourages employees to provide mentorship to their younger team members.
